1. Set the parameters of OTDR. When using OTDR testing, you must first set the instrument parameters, the most important of which is to set the refractive index and test wavelength of the test fiber. Only when the basic parameters of the test instrument are accurately set can conditions be created for accurate testing.

2. Use the amplification function of the instrument. The application of OTDR amplification function can accurately set the cursor on the corresponding inflection point, using the amplification function keys can be enlarged to 25 meters, so that you can get a resolution of less than 1 meter more accurate test results.

3. Adjust the accurate test range file. For different test range files, the distance resolution of OTDR test is different. When measuring optical fiber obstacle points, the test range file that is greater than the measured distance and the nearest test range should be selected, so as to make full use of the accuracy of the instrument itself to measure.

Secondly, the maintenance management process should establish accurate and complete original documents. These accurate optical cable line files are the basic basis for fault measurement and location. Therefore, the maintenance and management process can not be negligent, should establish a true, credible, complete line data.

During optical cable connection monitoring, record the cumulative length of the optical fiber from the test end to each joint point and the total attenuation value of the optical fiber in the relay section, and also register the test instrument model and the set value of refractive index during the test. Accurately record all kinds of cable remaining. Record in detail the remaining length of optical cable reel at each joint pit, special section, S-shaped laying, room entrance, etc. and the remaining length of optical fiber reel at joint box, terminal box, ODF rack, etc., so as to deduct when converting the routing length of fault point.

In addition, the consistency of the test conditions should be maintained during the measurement process. During the obstacle test, the consistency of the test instrument model, operation method and instrument parameter setting should be ensured as far as possible, so that the test results can be comparable. Therefore, the model of each test instrument and the setting of test parameters must be recorded in detail for future use.

Finally, the comprehensive analysis. The test of obstacle points requires operators to have clear thinking and flexible ways to deal with problems, and clear logical thinking is very useful wherever they are. Under normal circumstances, the two ends of the optical fiber cable line are tested for two-way faults, and then combined with the original data for analysis, and then ready to determine the specific location of the fault. When the link around the fault point has no obvious characteristics and the specific site cannot be determined, then we can adopt the measurement method at the nearby joint, which can be excavated at the obstacle point of the preliminary test, and the end station test instrument is in the real-time measurement state.

In optical fiber communication, if we encounter optical fiber interruption, we first consider the optical cable failure and take certain positioning measures, first check the external and then to the transmission. External such as: fiber break, power interruption, etc. and then test the transmission equipment.
